In a statement she signed on Sunday in Abuja, Abdullahi said the development marks a significant milestone for the party and reflects the commitment of its National Working Committee (NWC) to strengthening internal democracy. She said the growing acceptance of the SDP across the country reflects Nigerians’ desire for a credible political alternative committed to integrity, inclusiveness and people-centred governance. She called on women, youths, party members and supporters to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election, urging them to promote issue-based campaigns and effectively communicate the party’s vision for a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Nigeria. Abdullahi also appealed to Nigerians to pray for Adebayo, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength, good health and divine guidance as he prepares for the presidential election.

The declaration follows months of uncertainty over whether the opposition party would successfully field a presidential ticket after prolonged legal and leadership disputes fuelled speculation about its readiness for the 2027 polls.
