A humpback whale was spotted in a California river, 60 miles from its Pacific Ocean home

A fully grown humpback whale was spotted in the Sacramento River in Alameda, California, on Wednesday. The animal was located approximately 60 miles from its natural habitat in the Pacific Ocean. The sighting occurred while local fisherman Denny Glover was fishing for salmon and striped bass with companions. The presence of the whale in the river system represents a significant deviation from its typical marine environment.
