A New York jeweler has been released from prison in Iran but is banned from leaving war - torn country

Kamran Hekmati, an Iranian American jeweler based in New York, was released from Tehran’s Evin prison on September 5. While he has been granted release from incarceration, he remains prohibited from leaving Iran by local authorities.

The circumstances surrounding his release were confirmed by both his family and federal officials. Hekmati had been held in the facility until completing his term, though his current status involves a continued travel ban within the country.
