On August 10, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Colombia, affecting eleven departments and prompting international humanitarian relief efforts. Foreign rescue teams, including a group of twenty-two experts, have been mobilized to assist in the recovery operations. Domestic search and rescue units, such as the K9/BRAE team from Bogotá, are currently working in Cali to locate survivors.

Simultaneously, the administration of Abelardo de la Espriella initiated its first military bombing in the Catatumbo region on August 11. In response to the operation, Silvana Guerrero, commander of the ELN's Northeastern War Front, issued a statement asserting that the group's strategic plans remain unchanged despite the government's military actions.
