After winning the elections in Upper Saxony, the German far right demanded that Chancellor Merz call early elections.

Following a victory in the regional elections in Lower Saxony, the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) has demanded that Chancellor Friedrich Merz immediately call early federal elections.

National AfD leader Alice Weidel publicly called for Merz to step down and leave the chancellorship before Christmas, following the party's electoral success in the region.
