After nearly 30 years on the job, checking his phone got him fired

Herewini Dickson, an employee with nearly 30 years of service at Ballance Agri-Nutrients, was dismissed from his job after checking his phone. Following the termination, the Employment Relations Authority reviewed the case and determined that the company failed to disclose key evidence prior to the dismissal.

As a result of the procedural failure and wrongful termination, Ballance Agri-Nutrients has been ordered by authorities to pay Dickson more than $30,000 in compensation and remedies.
