Alberta NDP urges Smith to cancel separation vote amid Canada-U.S. trade war

Alberta’s Opposition leader, NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi, has called on Premier Danielle Smith to cancel an upcoming referendum regarding the province's separation from Canada. The demand comes as the country faces a consequential trade war with the United States.

According to the reports, the Alberta NDP argues that holding a vote on leaving the country is inappropriate while Canada is currently engaged in high-stakes trade disputes with its southern neighbor. Nenshi stated that Premier Smith needs to scrap the proposed vote entirely or, at the very least, postpone it.
