The National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec) has identified 14,097 phone calls originating from prisons under its custody that are linked to potential extortion cases. According to reports, these illicit communications occur at a frequency of approximately one call per hour.

In response to this security crisis, authorities have requested the blocking of 9,967 mobile device registrations associated with these activities. The data, which highlights ongoing challenges in controlling telecommunications within the prison system, was disclosed as part of an official response to a representative.
