NewzFormer Finance Minister and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has congratulated James Agalga on his selection as the new Majority Leader, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Majority caucus effectively. Dr Amin Adam said Mr Agalga’s years of experience in Parliament and government had equipped him with a firm understanding of the demands of parliamentary leadership. In a Facebook post on Sunday, August 9, he described the Builsa North MP as a fine intellectual and formidable debater whose qualities would benefit the work of Parliament.
“I have known James since his younger days, and I can say without hesitation that he comes to this role well prepared. His years in Parliament and in Government have given him a firm grasp of the demands of leadership,” he wrote. “He is also a fine intellect and a formidable debater, which are the qualities the House will benefit from.” Dr Amin Adam also reaffirmed the Minority’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities, including holding the government accountable, defending democratic principles and representing the interests of Ghanaians.
He, however, expressed hope that the new Majority leadership would work constructively with the Minority and prioritise dialogue and consensus-building on issues of national importance. “Ultimately, I believe the leaders on both sides will engage in greater dialogue and build consensus where it matters, so that our discourse serves the higher interest of our country,” he said. Mr Agalga’s selection as Majority Leader follows changes to the leadership of the Majority caucus in Parliament.

We will pursue our responsibility with vigour by defending our democracy and speaking for those who have no voice,” he said.
He nevertheless stressed the importance of cooperation between the leadership of both sides of the House, saying parliamentary discourse should ultimately be guided by the broader interests of the country. Dr Amin Adam said he believed stronger engagement between the Majority and Minority leadership could help Parliament build consensus on issues of national importance.
