Amnesty International calls on all social media platforms to change their approach to children following the META agreement

Amnesty International has formally requested that all social media platforms revise their operational practices regarding minors following a legal settlement between Meta and a coalition of U.S. state attorneys general. The organization welcomed the resolution, which concludes litigation concerning allegations that Meta intentionally designed Facebook and Instagram to be addictive for younger users.

As part of this legal agreement, the state of Illinois is set to receive approximately 768 million dollars. The settlement addresses claims that the platform's design features negatively impacted minors, prompting broader calls from advocacy groups for systemic changes across the social media industry to prioritize user safety.
