New school year: Minerd prioritizes strengthening digital education

The 2026-2027 academic year officially began this Monday in the Dominican Republic, with public schools welcoming a projected enrollment of 2,686,971 students. The inaugural ceremony took place at the Escuela Básica Espejo La Milagrosa in Santo Domingo Este, led by President Luis Abinader and Minister of Education Luis Miguel De Camps.

The Ministry of Education (Minerd) has established a strategic focus for this period, prioritizing the integration of artificial intelligence and digital teaching tools. Additionally, the ministry aims to expand coverage for the initial education level and reform the secondary school curriculum by increasing the emphasis on technical-professional training and technological development.
