Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim demanded PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man to withdraw his statements, remove social media posts on the matter, issue an unconditional public apology and promise not to repeat the claims.PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has given PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man 48 hours to apologise and retract claims he interfered in police investigations and the selection of the Negeri Sembilan ruler.Failing which, Anwar will sue Tuan Ibrahim for defamation. In a letter of demand, Anwar’s lawyer SN Nair said Tuan Ibrahim allegedly made the defamatory remarks at a PAS ceramah in Felda Jenderak Utara, Kuala Krau, on June 14.Parts of the speech were posted on Tuan Ibrahim’s Facebook page and YouTube the following day.In the speech, Tuan Ibrahim claimed that those who criticised ministers could soon find themselves being investigated by the police. He also claimed that Anwar had interfered in deciding who should be the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.“Never in the history (of the country) has the prime minister interfered in deciding who should be the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan,” Tuan Ibrahim allegedly said.Tuan Ibrahim also spoke of “misappropriation, corruption and abuse of power”, which Anwar’s lawyers said could be understood as referring to the prime minister and his administration.Anwar denied all the allegations, saying he never directed the police to investigate anyone who criticised the government and had never interfered in the selection of the Negeri Sembilan ruler. He then demanded Tuan Ibrahim to withdraw the statements, remove the social media posts, issue an unconditional public apology and promise not to repeat the claims. He is also seeking damages and legal costs.Nair went on to say that Tuan Ibrahim did not produce any evidence to support the suggestion that Anwar was involved in corruption, misappropriation or abuse of power.FMT has reached out to Tuan Ibrahim for comment.
