Apollo butterfly made a comeback, then overgrown habitat threatened it

Czech conservationists revived the Apollo butterfly population in 1986. The species population grew beyond two thousand individuals, showing conservation success. However, habitat succession later reduced essential sunlight and open conditions.

This overgrown vegetation threatened the butterfly's larval food plants and survival. Long-term habitat management is crucial for species recovery and future stability.
