Aragon appeals to the Supreme Court against the decree that increases its capacity to receive migrant children to 476: "It is unacceptable"

The Government of Aragon has announced it will file an appeal before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court against Royal Decree 556/2026. The decree, enacted on June 30, 2026, establishes the ordinary capacity of the regional child protection and guardianship system at 476 migrant minors.

This legal challenge contests the increase in the mandatory reception quota, which represents an addition of 35 individuals over the previous capacity of 441. The regional government has characterized the imposition of this new capacity limit as inadmissible, initiating formal judicial proceedings to contest the national mandate.
