Architect of current GST system says its 'working exactly as intended'

Former Western Australian senator and architect of the current Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, Mathias Cormann, has defended the tax framework, stating it is functioning exactly as intended and remains fit for purpose.

The defense follows a landmark interim report released by the Productivity Commission, which concluded that the current GST carve-up mechanism is both costly and unfair.
