As demand for human milk grows, ministry to operate van for collecting surplus from mothers at home

The Ministry of Health in Nepal is preparing to operate a dedicated collection van to gather surplus human milk directly from mothers at home. The initiative comes in response to a growing demand for human milk that currently outpaces collection rates.

Because of the high demand and limited supply, the existing human milk bank has had to prioritize distribution, currently focusing its services on critically ill infants and babies with low birth weights.

The introduction of the home-collection mobile service aims to bridge the gap between supply and demand by making it easier for nursing mothers to donate their surplus milk without needing to travel to a collection center.
