On Wednesday, the Asociación Trans de Andalucía-Sylvia Rivera (ATA) demanded that the killing of Franyel be officially recognized as gender violence. The 35-year-old Venezuelan trans woman was killed by her partner on Sunday in San Pedro Alcántara, a population center within the municipality of Marbella in southern Spain.

The demand by the transgender advocacy organization highlights the legal and social classification of violence against trans women within the framework of gender-based violence legislation. The case has drawn attention from regional associations advocating for specific legal recognitions in domestic homicide cases involving transgender victims.
