Samir Ousman Alsheikh, a 74-year-old former Syrian official under the Assad regime, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison by a United States court. The conviction follows charges filed in 2024, with a jury finding him guilty in March of one count of conspiracy to commit torture and three counts of torture related to the systemic abuse of detainees.
