At least 48 dead in Nigeria after consuming drink suspected to contain methanol, authorities say

At least 48 people have died and approximately 100 others are receiving medical treatment in southern Nigeria following the consumption of a locally brewed alcoholic beverage. According to authorities, the drink is suspected to contain dangerous levels of methanol.

The incident, which was reported on Thursday, occurred in Ondo state. Banji Ajaka, the state's commissioner, is among the officials addressing the unfolding public health emergency as medical personnel treat the affected individuals.
