August 2026 just became the most expensive August ever for drivers across America

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded fuel remains over $4 as of Aug. 31 and with that comes an unwelcome record. Gas prices have never been higher for the month of August, breaking a record set in 2022, according to data from AAA.
