Authorities in Vietnam discover more than a ton of concealed ivory illegally shipped from Africa

Authorities in Vietnam announced the seizure of more than one ton of illegally trafficked elephant ivory on Thursday. The shipment, which originated in Africa, was discovered concealed and consisted of 221 individual pieces weighing a total of 1,193 kilograms, or approximately 2,630 pounds.

The discovery was reported by local Vietnamese media. The seizure represents a significant enforcement action against the illicit wildlife trade, which continues to rely on international shipping routes to move prohibited goods from Africa to markets in Asia.
