Authorities, victims and families remember the August 17 attacks with a defense of "life and coexistence"

On the ninth anniversary of the August 17 terrorist attacks, authorities, victims, and their families gathered at the Plaça Sant Jaume in Barcelona to hold a commemorative ceremony. The event, which marked the first time the tribute was held in this location, focused on themes of remembrance, peace, and the defense of coexistence. Attendees included Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni, President of the Parliament Josep Rull, and Generalitat Interior Minister Núria Parlon.

While the official ceremony emphasized unity and reflection, the anniversary also served as a platform for political discourse. Representatives from the political party Vox utilized the occasion to voice criticism regarding immigration and the influence of Islamism, announcing plans for a future demonstration in Lleida to address these concerns.
