Avaran builds Jamaican momentum with ‘Sunshine After Rain’

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Bahamian reggae artiste Avaran is pleased with the response to his lovers rock single Sunshine After Rain following a week-long promotional campaign in Jamaica. The campaign saw him visiting several radio, television and print media outlets as he sought to strengthen his presence in the Jamaican reggae market. Coming to Jamaica to promote Sunshine After Rain was particularly meaningful to me because Jamaica is the birthplace of reggae music,” Avaran said.

A major highlight was his appearance on TVJ’s Smile Jamaica, where he delivered the first live television performance of his career. “I’ve performed on many stages throughout my musical journey, but walking onto a live television set in Jamaica and performing my music for that audience was something completely different,” he said. Avaran also singled out his interview with veteran broadcaster Ron Muschette on Edge 105.3 FM as another memorable experience.

He was particularly encouraged by Muschette’s continued support of the single following the interview. Sunshine After Rain has also received support from broadcasters including Richie B and IRIE FM’s Digital Chris. “What has been especially encouraging is that the support didn’t simply stop when the media tour ended.

We’ve continued to see radio personalities playing Sunshine After Rain, which tells me that the record is beginning to develop a life beyond the initial promotional campaign,” Avaran said. Recorded at Anchor Recording Studio in Kingston, the single features respected Jamaican musicians including bassist Errol “Flabba” Holt, guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith, drummer Kirk “Kirkledove” Bennett and keyboardist Robbie Lyn. The Jamaican campaign was coordinated by Ralston Barrett and The Reggae PR Agency, a partnership Avaran intends to maintain.

“I really cannot thank Ralston Barrett and The Reggae PR Agency enough for the work they did. Coming from The Bahamas, you can have a great record, but you still need the right people on the ground who know how to navigate the industry,” he said. Avaran said the visit also allowed him to establish new connections that could lead to performances, collaborations and other opportunities.
