Bahrain will not attend Gulf meeting with Iran on Strait of Hormuz

On Saturday, Bahrain announced it will not participate in a proposed meeting in Oman between Gulf states and Iran to discuss the Strait of Hormuz. The diplomatic snub highlights ongoing regional tensions surrounding the critical waterway.

Iran has recently pushed to formalize control over the Strait of Hormuz, which includes potential passage fees for vessels, and has blockaded the passage. According to the Bahraini foreign ministry, the decision not to attend stems from Iranian attacks on infrastructure across the Gulf and will remain in place until diplomatic relations between Manama and Tehran are restored.
