Low water levels in the Sava River force a reduction in power output at a nuclear power plant in Slovenia

The Krsko nuclear power plant, situated in Slovenia and jointly operated with Croatia, is set to gradually reduce its reactor power starting Wednesday night. This operational adjustment is necessitated by environmental conditions affecting the Sava River, specifically a low water level combined with rising water temperatures.

Originally, corrections regarding the plant's operational metrics noted a past production reduction duration of 90 days rather than a 90 percent drop. The current measure highlights the vulnerability of thermoelectric and nuclear facilities to seasonal hydrological changes and warming river temperatures, which restrict cooling capacities.
