The Police Command in Kano has rescued a kidnapped victim, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, the Sarkin Noman Kano, who was abducted by suspected bandits in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state. This is contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, on Sunday in Kano. 29, at about 11:30 p.m., a distress call was received that some miscreants suspected to be bandits stormed Garun Mallam town and started shooting sporadically in the air.
“In the process, the hoodlums abducted Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, the Sarkin Noman Kano, and shot and injured Yusif Nasiru, Salisu Garba, and Ibrahim Hassan, all residents of Garun Mallam town.” He added that upon receipt of the report, policemen, comprising tactical and patrol teams from the command, as well as reinforcements from neighbouring divisions, were immediately mobilised to the scene. The spokesperson added that the police, in collaboration with community members, gave the hoodlums a hot chase. Consequently, Haruna-Kiyawa noted that the bandits abandoned the kidnapped victim and fled the scene, adding that the victim was therefore rescued unhurt.
Haruna-Kiyawa further revealed that the three victims who sustained gunshot wounds were immediately rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital along with the rescued victim for medical attention. The command, he said, had emplaced confidence-building patrols in and around Garun Mallam town to forestall any further breach of peace, while a manhunt had been launched to arrest the fleeing perpetrators. He said investigation into the incident was ongoing, and further developments would be communicated to the public accordingly.
The PPRO quoted the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, as commending the prompt response of the police teams. He also appreciated the residents of Garun Mallam and neighbouring areas, members of Vigilante and Neighbourhood Watch Corps for their vigilance, bravery and cooperation, which greatly assisted the police in the operation. The CP further urged residents to remain calm and continue providing credible information to aid in the arrest of the culprits.
