Barn owls, bees, puffins and hedgehogs to feature on UK banknotes

On Thursday, the Bank of England announced that barn owls, bumblebees, puffins, and hedgehogs will feature on new banknotes in the coming years. These wildlife illustrations will replace current historical figures on the currency, including World War Two leader Winston Churchill.

The transition marks a significant shift in the design of UK currency, moving away from portraits of prominent historical leaders and toward native British wildlife.
