NewzFLORIDA, Jamaica — The countdown is on for Bedward The Musical, the powerful revival of Jamaican playwright Louis Marriott’s celebrated work, which will take place at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center on September 19 and 20. Presented by the Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council, with support from the Broward County Cultural Affairs and the Board of County Commissioners, the production brings to life the story of Alexander Bedward, the Jamaican preacher, healer and influential religious and social leader whose movement challenged colonial authority and championed faith, dignity and social justice. At the centre of the production is acclaimed Jamaican actor Ricky Rowe, who portrays Alexander Bedward.
Rowe brings the complex historical figure to life, exploring the faith, conviction and influence that made Bedward a significant figure in Jamaica’s history. Ricky Rowe Rowe is joined by a talented ensemble of performers, including Dr Allan Cunningham, Malachi Smith, Father Horace Ward, The Jamaican Folk Revue, Phillip Cross, Neville Williams, Nadine Brady-Taylor and Lena Lawrence. Together, the cast brings the story to life through powerful acting, music, movement and Jamaican cultural traditions.
The production is directed by Michael Forrest, with choreography by Yvonne Jones-Goodridge and musical direction by Dr Floyd Antonio.
