Bendigo, Geelong urged to join light rail revolution

Transport expert Peter Newman has renewed calls for the cities of Bendigo and Geelong to integrate light rail systems into their public transport networks. The proposal suggests expanding the use of existing tram infrastructure in Bendigo and adopting new light rail solutions in Geelong to address regional transit needs.

This initiative follows a similar recommendation made by Newman nearly two decades ago. The proposal is currently being considered as part of a broader trend among several Australian cities evaluating light rail as a viable strategy to improve urban connectivity and public transport efficiency.
