Between candour and coercion — why SA won’t bend to Washington’s dictates

The African National Congress (ANC) has formally rebutted a set of demands issued by United States envoy Brent Bozell, known as the 'Five Asks'. The ruling party defended South Africa's domestic policies, specifically highlighting its judicial system, land reform initiatives, and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) programs.

In its response, the South African leadership rejected what it characterized as external pressure to compromise its constitutional principles. The party insisted that diplomatic relations between Pretoria and Washington must be conducted on the basis of an equal partnership, refusing to bend to American directives.
