Avocados protected from drug trafficking in Mexico: Semarnat prohibits export if grown in deforested orchards

Mexico, the world's leading avocado producer, has announced a ban on the export of avocados grown on deforested land. Announced by Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, head of the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), the measure will be enforced through an environmental certificate.

The restriction primarily targets major producing states such as Michoacán and Jalisco. The policy was introduced by Semarnat as a key action to combat climate change.
