PN information chief Annuar Musa, speaking in Seremban today, said political power was a prerequisite for implementing policies to safeguard the interests of religion, the nation and all communities. SEREMBAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) will campaign on a single manifesto in the Negeri Sembilan state election after agreeing to merge their respective policy documents, PN information chief Annuar Musa said today. He said representatives from both coalitions had been appointed to coordinate the manifesto following a meeting yesterday.
“An agreement has been reached for the BN and PN manifestos to be combined, and we will endorse each other's manifesto. We will have only one manifesto,” he told a press conference here. BN and PN have an informal electoral pact under which BN is contesting 25 seats and the PAS-led PN 11 seats, with no overlap.
Both PN and BN have also instructed their respective supporters to vote for each other’s candidates at the Aug 1 election. Earlier today, BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan said the coalition would unveil its manifesto tomorrow, adding that it would focus on continuing development initiatives left unfinished after BN lost power in 2018. Asked to respond to Amanah communications director Khalid Samad's claim that the BN-PN collaboration was motivated by the pursuit of power rather than efforts to unite Muslims, Annuar said political power was a prerequisite for implementing policies.
“If we want to implement something good for the religion, we need power. “With that power, we will help the people ... including safeguarding the interests of religion, the nation and all communities.”
BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan said the decision to work with PN took into account long-term political interests and the country’s stability in view of the next general election. “I do not think or expect BN to enter into any new partnership,” Mohamad, who is seeking a seventh term as Rantau assemblyman in the upcoming polls, told reporters while on the campaign trail. Under the informal electoral pact, BN is contesting 25 seats and the PAS-led PN 11 seats, with no overlap. Yesterday, Parti Wawasan Negara president Hamzah Zainudin proposed naming the electoral cooperation between the two coalitions “Perikatan Barisan Nasional”.
