Bou Meng, a Cambodian artist and one of only seven known survivors of a notorious Khmer Rouge torture center, has died at the age of 85 in Phnom Penh. His death marks the passing of a significant witness to the atrocities committed in Cambodia during the late 1970s.

During his imprisonment, Meng survived by using his artistic skills to paint portraits of the regime's leader, Pol Pot. His survival and subsequent testimony provided a rare, firsthand account of the conditions within the Khmer Rouge’s detention system.
