British woman granted $1 million bail after allegedly being found with cocaine at NMIA

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A British woman who was allegedly found with more than six pounds of cocaine, with a street value of $3 million, at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in July, was granted bail in the sum of $1 million when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday. Twenty-eight-year-old Bethany Grant, a resident of Birmingham, England, has been charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine, possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and taking steps to export cocaine. According to court documents, about 6:26 pm on July 13, 2026, a police constable was on duty at the NMIA when she observed Grant being interviewed by a police corporal.

Grant was later brought to an area for security checks. The police constable reportedly requested Grant's passport, after which her luggage was searched in the presence of the lawmen. The search reportedly revealed several packages of what appeared to be festival dough mix in her suitcase.

The police constable reportedly inspected the packages and observed that they were unusually hard, compared with other festival mixes she had inspected. After reportedly removing a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance from one of the dough-mix boxes, the constable detected a pungent odour coming from the item. The constable reportedly asked Grant where she had purchased the dough mix, to which she replied that she had bought it at a supermarket.

With Grant's permission, the constable reportedly opened the plastic bag containing the powdery substance and conducted a field test which reportedly gave a positive reaction for cocaine. Grant was later escorted to the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division, where her luggage was further searched. During the search, 12 assorted items were reportedly seen in her luggage, including three pairs of slippers, three packets of festival dough mix, one packet of chocolate mix and two packets of coffee mix, were found containing white powdery substance resembling cocaine.

Grant is being represented by attorneys Isat Buchanan and Alessandra Labeach. Buchanan, in making the bail application, argued that his client was a suitable candidate for bail and was willing to present herself to the court whenever required, with the support of her family in Jamaica. Grant was subsequently offered bail with one surety.
