ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — A man who reportedly fled the scene of a confrontation with police in Balaclava, St Elizabeth, last month, which left Jowayne Salmon, otherwise called “Mani”, dead, has been charged. He has been identified as 29-year-old Kimar Robinson, otherwise called “Budshot”, a construction worker of Oxford District, St Elizabeth. Robinson has been charged with shooting with intent, possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

Reports are that about 3:40 pm on September 22, members of the police’s Area Fugitive Apprehension Team (AFAT) were conducting an operation along the Balaclava main road when they signalled men travelling on motorcycles to stop. The men allegedly opened fire on the police team, prompting the officers to take evasive action and return fire. During the confrontation, Salmon reportedly fell from his motorcycle.

Police said a firearm also fell from his hand. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Robinson reportedly escaped from the area on his motorcycle but later surrendered to the police.

He was placed on an identification parade where he was positively identified and charged. READ: Man fatally shot by police in Balaclava, firearm seized
