Businessman killed in family dispute, teen bystander injured

ST JAMES, Jamaica — A family dispute turned deadly on Monday when a businessman was allegedly shot and killed by a relative, and a teenage girl also wounded in the gunfire. Everton Mendez, 44, was walking along the roadway in Bottom Pen, Glendevon, St James, shortly after 12:30 pm when he reportedly became involved in an argument with a family member. According to police reports, the dispute escalated, and the relative allegedly pulled a firearm and opened fire.

Mendez was struck and a teenage girl who was nearby was also injured. Both victims were rushed to hospital, where Mendez later succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the injured teenager was not immediately disclosed.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
