The collapse of the Guijo bridge closes the main land corridor to the Guatemalan Caribbean

The collapse of the Guijo bridge in Usumatlán, Zacapa, at kilometer 111 of the Atlantic route has completely blocked the CA-9 Norte highway in both directions. The structural failure followed an accident involving a burning semi-trailer and multiple light vehicles.

This incident has severed the primary overland corridor connecting the country to the Guatemalan Caribbean, severely disrupting transportation and logistics along a vital national route.
