California lawmakers kill grizzly bear reintroduction bill

On Thursday, California lawmakers rejected a controversial legislative measure aimed at exploring the eventual return of grizzly bears to the state. The Assembly Appropriations Committee voted to kill Senate Bill 1305, which was introduced by Inglewood Democratic Senator Laura Richardson.

If enacted, the legislation would have directed the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to undertake planning and tasks related to the potential reintroduction of the apex predators. The defeat halts the contentious initiative, keeping the grizzly bear off the list of returning wildlife in the state for the foreseeable future.
