Cameroon: Paul Biya is absent. Where is the opposition?

Cameroon President Paul Biya has been absent from the country for more than 50 days during an extended stay in Switzerland. Despite the prolonged absence of the long-serving leader, the nation's political opposition has thus far been unable to capitalize on the situation.

Opponents of the administration have struggled to unite or build a broad political movement in response to the president's absence. Various opposition figures and groups maintain differing positions, preventing a cohesive challenge to the current government while the head of state remains abroad.
