Canada’s salmonella outbreak from pistachios over, but Iran import ban remains

A salmonella outbreak in Canada linked to pistachios has officially ended, though a ban on pistachio imports from Iran remains in place. The outbreak began in March 2025 and lasted for more than a year, with the final reported illnesses occurring in May.

The contamination resulted in 200 lab-confirmed cases of salmonella across six Canadian provinces. Despite the conclusion of the outbreak, restrictions prohibiting the import of Iranian pistachios continue to be enforced.
