The assassination of businessman Gustavo Aponte in Bogotá may have been a mistake: the name of the killer's true target has been revealed.

Gustavo Andrés Aponte, a businessman in the rice sector, was murdered by a hitman on February 11, 2026, in northern Bogotá. Authorities subsequently arrested Leonel Enrique Llanos Paternina, alias Tony, in Villavicencio, identifying him as the driver of the motorcycle used in the escape.

Nearly seven years and a half later, on the night of Thursday, August 27, the case took a significant turn during legal proceedings. Investigations revealed that the assassination may have been a mistake, with authorities disclosing the name of the intended target of the killers.
