The Panamanian government is moving forward with plans to construct a $177 million prison project known as the Complejo Penitenciario de Provincias Centrales in Divisa.

Despite the advancement of the project, the tender process has yielded only two proposals from prospective builders. Furthermore, the initiative faces ongoing opposition from local residents and authorities in Santa María, Herrera.
