The UNGRD announced financial support for earthquake victims: who will benefit and how much aid is available

The Unidad Nacional para la Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres (Ungrd) has activated a temporary financial aid package of up to $3,151,629 per household for families affected by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred on August 10. The financial assistance is scheduled to be distributed in payments over a period of three months to the qualifying displaced households.

In connection with the disaster response, political debate has emerged following remarks by Senator Carolina Corcho of the Pacto Histórico. During a congressional plenary session, Corcho questioned the inclusion of megaprison construction within the earthquake emergency measures, asking what they have to do with the crisis, and requested a vote on a proposal to hold five public hearings regarding the government's handling of the affected zones.
