Colombian authorities, supported by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), have launched 'Operación Soberanía Uno' to dismantle clandestine infrastructure used for drug trafficking. As part of this initiative, officials recently destroyed a 1,280-meter illegal airstrip located in the rural area of Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, which was reportedly utilized for the aerial transport of cocaine.

Simultaneously, regional drug trafficking operations are evolving to evade law enforcement. In Costa Rica, criminal organizations linked to the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation cartels have shifted their strategy by fragmenting into smaller, localized cells. This tactical change aims to minimize the groups' exposure to authorities by relying on local service providers rather than maintaining large, centralized structures.
