Almost half of the vehicles imported to the Dominican Republic were SUVs

During the first seven months of the year, the Dominican Republic imported 84,544 transport units, reflecting a positive trend in the local automotive market. Nearly half of these imported vehicles were classified as sport utility vehicles (SUVs), commonly referred to as yipetas.

The majority of the total units imported during this period were second-hand vehicles. This influx of imports has reportedly influenced both the broader automotive sector and domestic sales performance.
