CCM reshuffles secretariat

ZANZIBAR: THE Central Committee of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) National Executive Committee (NEC) has made minor changes to the party’s Secretariat, appointing new leaders to key positions. The changes were approved during the committee’s meeting held yesterday in Zanzibar, chaired by the party’s National Chairperson, President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan. Under the changes, Agrey Mwanri has been appointed CCM Deputy Secretary General for the Mainland, replacing John Mongella.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, CCM Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Mr Kenani Kihongosi, said the appointments are part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the party’s Secretariat and enhancing efficiency in implementing CCM’s programmes and discharging its responsibilities. Mr Kihongosi also announced the appointment of Abdi Mahmud Abdi as CCM Deputy Secretary General for Zanzibar. In other changes, Paul Chacha has been appointed to head the Organisation Department, replacing Issa Ussi Gavu, while Jamal Kassim takes over the Economic Affairs Department from Raila Burhan Ngonzi.

Meanwhile, CCM Secretary General Dr AshaRose Migiro, NEC Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training Mr Kenani Kihongosi and NEC Secretary for Political Affairs and International Relations Ms Rabia Hamid have retained their positions. Earlier, Mr Kihongosi said the NEC had also endorsed two key agenda items aimed at strengthening the party ahead of future activities. “The National Executive Committee has approved the timetable for the 2027 intra-party elections. CCM remains committed to conducting these elections in a free, fair, transparent and respectful manner, in accordance with our constitution and regulations,” Mr Kihongosi said. The NEC also adopted the 2026 Gender and Inclusion Policy, which seeks to expand the participation of women, youth and persons with disabilities in leadership and decision-making across the party.
