CDC expands largest known cyclospora outbreak to 15 states, Washington Post reports

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has expanded its investigation into the largest known US cyclosporiasis outbreak to a total of 15 states. The inclusion of six additional states follows reports from Michigan concerning the first two US deaths linked to the disease.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. Public health officials are actively investigating the current multi-state outbreak to determine the source of the infections and prevent further transmission across the affected regions.
