Ceuta asks the Ministry for Ecological Transition for "urgent measures" to address the environmental impact of migrant settlements

On September 14, the Autonomous City of Ceuta formally requested urgent intervention from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to mitigate environmental degradation resulting from the recent influx of migrants. The local government cited significant ecological impacts stemming from the current crisis conditions.

Simultaneously, the Spanish central government is accelerating the construction of two new infrastructure projects at the Muelle de Poniente in the port of Ceuta. These facilities are designed to house over 1,000 individuals, aiming to provide shelter for migrants who arrived on August 30 and 31 and to reduce the number of people currently residing on the streets.
