A one-year-old child has been airlifted to a Toronto trauma hospital after a single vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Pickering. Ontario Provincial Police say the crash occurred in the eastbound express lanes at Brock Road around 2:30 p.m. ORNGE tells CityNews they transported one paediatric patient to the Hospital for Sick Children with critical injuries.

Provincial police said the infant boy was in stable condition. Police say the female driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. In a late afternoon update, police said the express lanes of the highway remain closed for the investigation with traffic being funneled into the collector lanes.

The westbound lanes were closed for a brief period of time but they have since reopened.
