China targets new space-based computing network to process data born in orbit

China has unveiled plans for an ambitious new space-based computing network named Xingshu, or "Star Hub," designed to process satellite data directly in orbit using artificial intelligence before transmitting the results back to Earth.

According to optical communications professor Chi Nan, the network will eventually comprise approximately 1,000 satellites. This infrastructure aims to handle data born in space, shifting processing workloads away from ground-based systems.
